ELSiA is a European alliance of Catholic not-for-profit organisations, networks, and Bishops’ Conferences united by a shared commitment to social justice, integral human development, and the care for our common home. Rooted in the rich tradition of the Church’s social teaching, our members implement projects across diverse sectors that foster human dignity and social promotion throughout Europe and beyond. We work collaboratively to strengthen our collective impact, increasing our engagement with integral ecology both within our own structures and in the wider society we serve.
Inspired in a particular way by Laudato Si’ of Pope Francis, and further enriched by Fratelli tutti and Laudate Deum, ELSiA embraces the call to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. We recognise the profound interconnection between social and environmental crises and affirm that social justice and environmental justice are inseparable. Convinced of the urgent need for ecological conversion within the Church and across European society, we seek to address the structural causes of climate change and to mitigate its disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities. Through coordinated advocacy, knowledge-sharing, and partnership — including engagement with European institutions and civil society — we strive to ensure that the Church, supported by its extensive local and global networks, exercises responsible leadership in advancing integral ecology for the common good.

Foundation of ELSiA and core membership
ELSiA was established to bring together and coordinate the existing capacities of CIDSE, COMECE, GCCM, JESC and Justice and Peace Europe with regard to integral ecology, fostering the ecological conversion called for by Pope Francis.
