ELSiA eco-retreat and gathering in Taizé (2026)

The European Laudato Si’ Alliance is pleased to announce a three-day eco-retreat in Taizé, taking place from 6 to 8 March 2026. This gathering will bring together national coordinators of Laudato Si’ movements and circles, representatives of organisations engaged in integral ecology, and leaders of eco-church initiatives from across Europe.

Conceived as a space of reflection, encounter, and prayer, the retreat will offer a focused and in-depth exploration of the implementation of integral ecology in today’s European context. Participants will engage with the theological, spiritual, ecological, anthropological, economic, and ecclesial dimensions of integral ecology, receiving substantive input alongside opportunities for shared discernment.

The programme combines keynote contributions, small-group exchanges, and collective reflection with immersive experiences offered by the Taizé community. Workshops will include encounters with the ecological practices of Taizé itself—such as its rainwater collection system and natural surroundings—inviting participants to connect ecological commitment with lived spirituality.

Rooted in the rhythm of community prayer, including participation in Taizé’s liturgies, the retreat also marks a deep reflectoin on the tenth anniversary of Laudato Si’. Together, participants will celebrate this milestone and renew their shared commitment to advancing its vision across Europe.

Through shared stories of conversion, best-practice exchange, and structured discernment on collective next steps, the gathering aims to strengthen collaboration and deepen the network of those working for integral ecology within the Church and beyond.

We look forward to welcoming participants to Taizé for this time of spiritual renewal, intellectual engagement, and fraternal exchange.
